| The joys of being in process so long...paperwork updates! |
We've hit a big milestone in our Congolese adoption process... our adoption has gone through court! This is farther than we've ever made it in this process. It's actually starting to feel like we really will have our Congolese baby girl home soon!
So what's next?
We should be recieving our adoption decree this week. We are now in the 30 day appeal period. After the 30 day wait a no appeal document is issued. The municipal authority will be notified and documents are delivered to the civil officer. Also during that process our baby girl's birth certificate will be applied for!
Once all of those adoption documents are completed and in hand they will notify our agency and send the documents to us. We will submit them to USCIS. While we are doing our part, the original documents will be legalized in Congo and our baby girl's passport will be applied for.
When USCIS approves the visa a formal investigation will be conducted, which can take a few weeks. Once completed the visa will be issued.
Once the visa is issued our in-country rep will apply for the exit permit...THEN we get our travel dates to pick up our little girl!
I know that's pretty confusing, but to sum it up... we are actually making progress! Our caseworker estimates the paperwork process will take at least 2 months and obtaining the visa will take at least another 2 months. We know it's just a guess, but if both steps did process in about 2 months our travel dates may be around Christmas!
A Congolese Christmas sounds pretty nice. We shall see!
