Do you PALEO?

The past month has been a whirlwind for my family. We packed up and moved to a different town (during Christmas!), had my son's birthday party, started a new job, a new church and completed several home projects to make our new place feel more like our own. You know what we haven't done?    ...made our health a priority. One or two fast food meals a week to me isn't a big deal, especially when making the best choices from what's available.. BUT when dinner time rolls around again (What?! You people want to eat again? Didn't I feed you this morning?) and we are in the middle of unpacking/painting/cleaning and momma has had no desire to go grocery shopping, meal planning, recipe hunting and then have to clean up the kitchen, we hit the road again. Yuck, yuck, yuck.. After way too many days of this my husband and I knew we had to make a change. Not just for our health, but more importantly for our boys.

PALEO = No dairy. Not a prob for my chocolate milk loving boys. They love this stuff!

Hubby and I decided the best, most logical food plan for us was following the PALEO plan. Let me make the disclaimer now that I am definitely not one for counting calories or depriving myself. Have you seen my pins on Pinterest? I will not give up my chocolate cake! ;) However, I'm tired of feeling yucky about the food choices I have made the past month and what is available for my family. My husband is a wonderful provider for our family. I feel like it's my job to make sure he can come home to a lovely, nutritious meal on the table. Okay, maybe not lovely, let me not get ahead of myself, but at least it should be something that will give him enough energy to wrestle with our two, soon to be THREE, kids after dinner!

So what is PALEO anyway? With any food plan, there is a spectrum. We are striving for PALEO, but aren't going to push our plates away when we go a friend's house for dinner this week. Know what I mean? The main guideline for PALEO is eat real food. Don't count calories! Eat fresh fruits, veggies, seeds, nuts and lean meat! Simple, huh? Yes and no. Sometimes it's so easy for me to grab a pop tart or hand full of processed whatever when I'm starving. Now I actually have to think about my food choices?! What?!

You can't help but feel good after eating this!

What keeps me motivated is knowing the food I put in my body is doing some good. Maybe I actually have to prepare a snack instead of unwrapping it, but it will not only taste good, but it will  increase energy, and I'll have more vitamins, minerals and antioxidants floating around my body which-will hopefully have less fat on it the longer I eat this way. ;)

If you are feeling like you need to make a healthy change in regards to food, you should definitely look into PALEO. Remember, you should never starve yourself or feel deprived. Make good choices most of the time, have your cake and then go take a walk with your family. It's all about balance!
